Student Crew Launches Program Implementation
MELBOURNE, FL September 2, 2002 – Student Marketing, Inc. has released its premiere version of the interactive membership program Student Crew. This program consists of a three tier organizational structure that materializes advantages in the student demographic. Participation of national and local businesses surrounding campuses nationwide serve as Crew merchants and honor discounts to Crew members in the form of points. A membership Crew Card, a device similar to a magnetic stripe ID card, is the first open platform to utilize smart card technology in terms of managing a loyalty points program. This relationship allows students to accumulate rewards such as vacations, merchandise and tuition assistance by making purchases from Crew merchants who receive a smart card terminal, exception advertising and a supplemental website.
The Student Crew membership program was test market sampled at the University of Central Florida campus in Orlando, Florida. “The response was overwhelming,” states Shawn Andreas, president of Student Marketing. “Merchants were extremely receptive to participating in the program and our sales representatives were experiencing 85% closing rates.” Preliminary efforts resulted in over 75 Crew merchants and 700 Crew members.
Student Crew is actively being implemented on high school and college campuses in Florida and Georgia as it begins its nationwide expansion. With the versatility of the smart chip enhanced Crew Card, Student Crew will continually add new features that build value to the membership program and allow members additional benefits. Incentives such as a one-time $20.00 lifetime membership fee, a $50.00 international travel voucher and 1,000 Crew Reward bonus points lend to projections of Student Crew enrolling over 500,000 members and 27,000 merchants during the first year of formal operation.
